Don't count us out, Game 2 can be ours
To start off, no, I’ve never seen anything like that double play where we got two guys (Jeff Kent and J.D. Drew) thrown out at the plate. In fact, I still haven’t seen anything like it, because I didn’t have a very good view. I wish I had seen exactly what happened. Back-to-back guys thrown out at the plate? On the same play? In the dugout, it was like, shock. It was like, "Did anybody see what happened? Like, did that really happen?"
But when you think about it, we still scored a run that inning and we were ahead. And when we fell behind, everyone thought we were still going to win the game, and right up until the last pitch with Nomar Garciaparra up at the end, because who else would you want up there in that situation? We never think we’re out of it. It’s a really good trait we have. Nobody thinks we’re out of it, even though they have a phenomenal closer (Billy Wagner). But look, we scored a run off him and had the tying run at second base.
Like I said before, I knew it was going to be exciting -- the atmosphere and everything -- and it was. We knew the crowd would be a big advantage for them and it was. We’ll see the same thing when the Mets come to L.A. Baseball should be difficult on the road, especially in the postseason, but if we win tomorrow, we’re in the driver’s seat playing two of three at home.
Tomorrow, we’ve got Hong-Chih Kuo going, and I know he’s a rookie and he’s only got one win -- and they’ve got Tom Glavine going and he’s got about a million wins -- but I like our chances. Kuo being left-handed, he’ll turn around their power guys and that might be an advantage to us.
Their power guys hit a couple of home runs off me, especially Carlos Delgado; he hit that ball about 500 feet up on the camera tower. But I got hurt giving up the two runs on David Wright’s hit. It was a good game and all the games will be just like this -- they could come down to a pitch or a hit and, probably, will come down to the bullpen -- and I still like our chances. You look around this clubhouse now, nobody’s overreacting to this game. We’re coming back tomorrow and we’ll play a good game.
This is a good time for me to leave. I’ve got a lot of family here, and we’ll probably talk about every single pitch of this game. I love baseball, and I’ll go back and watch some TV and come back tomorrow ready to play.

An incredible game, only the wrong team won! Let's just get the next one. Keep everyones' spirits up...we can beat these guys.

Good thing you didn't see tha t play. You didn't miss much Derek... except for Rich Donnelly forgetting to put the stop sign out for JD Drew. First and third with one out would have been the diffence in winning.
Glad to hear the team is taking this in stride. Bring us back tied up for Saturday's game!! Thanks again for your posts... especially on a day you pitched! You're awesome for doing this...

D Lowe...Dog, Good job today. You pitched well and had good command. They had a well hit ball here and a dinker there and they got a few..... No big deal! We'll get game2! This series will be like that.
What I got out of today, is that we got all of our runs ourselves, and they got half on luck and a few BB.
Hence, we are controlling things out there. If you guys continue to play Dodger ball, we will prevail!
Outstanding team performance! Lets go out and play mistake free Dodger ball and do this thing! SO Cal Baby!

Here's to a great game from our staff ace! You pitched great as I expected you would, we just didn't get the breaks. Tomorrow, let's go out there and kick some you know what. Never say die! BEAT THE METS! BEAT THE METS! I really feel this team is going to go all the way. And think...how sweet is it going to feel to beat the Yankees if they make it to the series with you? GO DODGERS!!! GO D-LOWE!!!

Lowe,
I don't think you get enough credit for turning the Dodger's season around. I'm not a homer fan and I've been very critical of my Dodgers when they don't perform, but you really carried this team during the 2nd half and you gave it your all today. Hopefully we can bring it back to Echo Park tied 1-1.

Hi Dereck
There are good and bad days.
You and the team have really turned it around in the second half. We picked up MADDOG,Anderson and brought up Loney. One thing I have seen in this team is heart and love for baseball. One game has gone and I dont see this as a loss. I look at it as a tool to find were we need to fine tune our club. We Will come back and win. A old saying I would love to share with the team
"We have lost the first battle
but our fight and mite will keep us going." Everyone needs to look into themselves and ask, "How badly do I want this" Go Dodgers We Are A Powerful mighty machine. Nothing can or will stop us and we wont stop this till we can taste the tarnish off the World Series Trophy. Go Dodgers.
Sincerely Submitted,
Bill

All I can say is thanks D Lowe for the excellent performance today, besides the 2 homeruns it was a great start for our club. You guy's gave it your all and I know we will come back on them. Keep your spirits all up and know that about 50,000+ fans will be waiting for you guy's at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.

Lowe,
I hope they post your comments on the Mets club house. You think our hitters are going to be contained with that rookie in Shea during the playoffs with David Wright and Delgado red hot? You sir, will see just how great the Mets are. Further, the only reason why you scored those runs was an error on Valentin, that's three runs right there. He makes that play, and it is runner at 2nd with 2 outs. Simple as that.
Good game though. Thanks for the homeruns. We look forward to seeing you at game 4 if it gets that far.

I hope the Mets' feel like it's an early christmas. Because, Dodgers might as well have gift wrapped that present.
There's nothing special about this Mets team. I'm pretty sure the only reason they won 96 games is because people underestimate how very beatable they really are.
We can pitch much better than that!
Derek, in game 4, focus on 7 innings and a shutout to move onto the next series.

Lowe, the Dodgers and you couldn't hold on after you caught up AND went ahead? As a Red Sox fan, now rooting for the Mets, it's quite humorous (and very entertaining) watching you, Grady Little and Garciaparra in the Used To Be club! Get out the golf clubs!

D.Lowe, Well piched game and I agree with what you said about never quitting or thinking you can't come back and win it. That's the fire it will take to go all the way.
Didn't really see the 3rd base coach on the replays but I would think the 2nd runner should have seen that he needed to stop at 3rd base.
Been a Dodger fan since my first Dodger game in 1960. I'd love to see a Dodger/Yankees World Series and exact some revenge on those Yankees for all the tears I shed as a kid when they would beat us in the post season.
Hope our rookie pitcher does the job. Glavine can be tough.
And to the Mets fan that wrote on here:
Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Derek,
Just wanted to thank you over all for such a great season so far, even yesterdays game was a great outing. 4 runs against one of the hottest teams around this year and the only reason we lost was due to some mental/coaching mistakes. We will eat this team for lunch. Kuo has pitched well before against them and he is also due for another great outing today. I am very confident in the Dodger team that was put together this year mainly because I see a lot of heart in this team. I am very happy with all the success we have had this year and i know that we are not done now. We are takin this all the way. We definately have the advantage in this series especially with pitching. Anyways thank you very much Derek, us fans are proud to have you on our side.

please..please stomp on the mets in game two, im getting sick and tired of all this new york love espn gives the mets and the yankees! It's as if they really want a boring subway series.

Other than that homer by Delgado, all his other hits were garbage. The shift is awful. You'd think someone would figure something out when the guy hits against the shift 3 times including 2 double play balls. Everything aside the biggest mistake in that game was the shift. Without it you would have easily had the win. Hopefully the Mets won't be so **** lucky this time.

Hey rarrig3240@cox.net, you took the works right out of my mouth. It's amazing how a losser can bad mouth a winner !! Thanks for your continued support !!!
And italianwx@yahoo.com, that rookie beat you earlier this month, now didn't he !!!
Derek, You should be proud of your hard work, you pitched a good game and it was a game that could have gone either way. I'm really glade to see that the team is taking it in stride. We need to clear our heads of yerterday and concentrate on today !!
It should be a great game tonight !!
Go Dodgers !!!

I don't mean to sound too negative but that DP at the plate killed us. We were in for a huge inning and only scored one instead of three or maybe more! Three or more runs would have really shut those NY fans up!! Well lets get even tonight..I have all the confidence in the world in Kuo. Oh and one more thing, we could of really used Beimel yesterday, instead of Penny pitching to the lefties! Go Dodgers!! Lets go back to LA tied 1-1! Think Blue Think 2nd Round!!

Even if we lost yesterday I still think the Mets are beatable!!!! I will be at the stadium on Saturday and WE WILL BE LOUD!
Thanks for the ball you threw to me at SF D.Lowe! Since Opening Day I believe in you and you paid great dividends in my fantasy baseball team!!
In Kuo we trust!! The rookies have made great contributions all year around along with the Vets and this WILL continue into the postseason.!
Go Dodgers!!!

Derek,
Everyone is mentioning your great work on the mound this year. I just want to say that you've got a career in the media once you hang 'em up (unless someone is ghost writing your blogs).
Really enjoyable stuff to read. Thanks for the insight.

Well, looks like we need ya in game 4. I will be sitting in my livingroom (if I'm not at the game) with the boy's cheering on the 6'6" youngster from Dearborn Edsel Ford making the Mets look silly. Talk to the team, they need your leadership and the confidence that you have proven in the past. Get out there and have fun, cause we sure are.

Dodgeres played hard and I really enjoyed watching the game. Game 2 is in the bag. GO Dodgers!! See ya at Saturdays game. GO FURCAL!!! I love you man.

Derek,
Thank you for posting this blog, we all appreciate it very much. As a die hard Dodger fan all my life, it was a little disappointing to lose yesterday, but I didn't have a problem with the aggressiveness on the basepaths. That same aggressiveness got you and the team some amazing wins this season. Keep it up and bring the series home tied, so the country can see how L.A. supports its beloved Dodgers. GO DODGERS!!!

D-Lowe,
I wish you all the best in the playoffs. If anyone can turn it on, it's you. I'm a die hard Boston fan and was your biggest fan in Boston. I love the way you play the game with your all your heart and soul. I'm living temporarily in LA and the one thing I had to do when I arrived was see you pitch, which I did - while sporting my Lowe Sox shirt! The Dodgers are lucky to have you; we miss you in Boston! I would love to see a Dodgers/Yanks WS and would LOVE to see you kick the **** out of the Yanks again! You deserve ring #2 - go get em!

whats going on d-lowe ... yeah that ..play at home was really bad ... i believ what happen was ... when the ball was hit, kent had told drew .. to googogo ... and drew toook off ... i guess they didnt know the ball only took 1bounce and if the third base coach ..would of stop kent then that would of put 2 guys at third ..so he just wave kent around ... and drew thought the coach was waving him ... so the coach was watching the play at home ... and when he looked up he say that drew was going around 2 home ."shocked" ... and he couldnt do anything about it
